Music
Music is an important and much-loved part of life at our school. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy of music, develop their musical talents and discover the confidence that comes from performing and creating together.
A rich and engaging music curriculum
Our music curriculum provides children with a broad and engaging range of musical experiences. Through carefully planned lessons, pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of music, learning to listen attentively, sing with confidence, perform, compose and explore a variety of musical styles and traditions.
As children progress through the school, they build on their musical knowledge and skills, developing an understanding of rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics and musical notation. They have opportunities to use their voices and a range of instruments, developing their creativity, musical vocabulary and appreciation of music from different cultures and periods.
Our approach encourages all children to participate, take creative risks and develop a lifelong enjoyment of music.
Performing together
We are proud of our school orchestra, which provides pupils with a wonderful opportunity to develop their instrumental skills, rehearse collaboratively and experience the excitement of making music as part of an ensemble.
Through regular rehearsals and performance opportunities, children learn the importance of listening to one another, working as a team and taking pride in their achievements. Performing for an audience also helps pupils to develop confidence, resilience and a sense of accomplishment.
Throughout the school, pupils are encouraged to share their musical talents and celebrate the achievements of others.
Music for every child
We want every child to feel that music is for them. Our teaching supports pupils of different abilities and experiences, ensuring that all children can participate, make progress and experience success.
Music helps children to express themselves, develop their imagination and connect with others. It also nurtures important skills such as concentration, perseverance, cooperation and self-confidence.
Above all, we want our pupils to leave our school with happy musical memories, a strong foundation of musical knowledge and the confidence to continue enjoying and participating in music throughout their lives.
